Consists of leaders in the public, societal, and private sectors, and representatives from citizen initiatives in the field of crisis response and societal adaption. The board will function as a societal sounding board, offering a ‘reality check’ on the public value of Adapt!’s activities. The board will advise on ways of forging and strengthening activities and knowledge sharing, and it will ensure co-creation of partnerships with corporate, governmental, and civic organisations. The Institutions and Society Board will mee annually and will be chaired by Jensen.
Principal investigators (PIs)
Beatrice de Graaf is a distinguished professor at Utrecht University and a worldwide authority on two research tracks: the contemporary study of conflict and terrorism, and the history of security. She is the principal applicant and scientific director of the Adapt! programme.
Arjen Boin is professor of public institutions and governance at Leiden University’s Department of Political Science. He is the academic consultancy director of the Adapt! programme.
Kees van den Bos is professor of Social Psychology and professor of Empirical Legal Science at Utrecht University. He is the chair of the Adapt! Council of the programme.
Ellen Giebels is professor of conflict and safety at the University of Twente. She is the data quality, methods, and ethics director of the Adapt! programme.
Lotte Jensen is professor of Dutch Cultural and Literary History at the Faculty of Arts at Radboud University Nijmegen. She is the chair of the Institutions and Society Board of the Adapt! programme.

Sophie is the Project Leader at the Department of History and Art History at Utrecht University. Here she is involved in the project management of, among others, the Security History Network, the Security in Open Societies Hub and Adapt! Sophie has a BA in History and an MA in International Relations in Historical Perspective with a specialization in security. At Adapt! she is involved in the project management, is involved in the practical support of the team, organizes activities and meetings and manages other support staff.
